How to Become a Member

We believe that membership in a local church is very important. To be a member there are really only two requirements:

  1. That you be a Christian. You need to have personally committed your life to Christ, and trusted in Him alone as your personal Savior from sin.
  2. That you agree with and support the statement of faith of our church, which is also the statement of faith of the Evangelical Free Church of America.

If you decide to become a member we also encourage you to be a “good citizen” of the church by being involved in its various ministries, and through prayer and financial support.

Before becoming a member we require you to attend a 10 week class, entitled “Essentials”. During this class you will:

  • receive an overview of the whole Bible
  • get a taste of what being in a small group is like
  • talk about and apply some essential practices related to growing in your relationship with Christ, and
  • gain an understanding of the beliefs of Woodlands Church

This class will be held periodically throughout the year; the next session will be in the Fall of 2009.

It is important to note that attending the class does not automatically commit you to membership (you can take the class for informational purposes only), but if you want to become a member you must take the class.

Once you have taken the class, if you decide you want to become a member of the church, you will be interviewed by two Elders to hear your testimony of how and when you became a Christian. The Elders will then recommend you to the congregation for membership, and that will be voted on at the next scheduled congregational meeting of the church.
